By: Todd Porter (CantonRep.com) - Washington High School wide receiver Devin Smith was offered a scholarship by Ohio State Head Coach Jim Tressel after Smith participated in the Buckeyes’ senior advance camp. Smith, who has not committed, may be gambling with time according to sources with knowledge of Ohio State’s recruiting process.
One wide receiver, Evan Spencer, already has verbally committed to OSU for the class of 2011. Spencer is the son of former Ohio State assistant coach Tim Spencer, now with the Chicago Bears.
“I may make a decision in a week or so,” Smith said. “But I’m still talking it over with my family. I want to make sure the school I pick is what I want 100 percent.
“I was a big Ohio State fan growing up. My dad graduated from there. … My dream before football was to play basketball for the Buckeyes … then I realized football was the best opportunity for me. Now I have the opportunity. … It’s a matter of if I make this choice or not.”
The Buckeyes are planning to take just three wide receivers in that class. There also are offers out to Glenville’s Shane Wynn and two Florida stars — Phillip Dorsett and JaJuan Story. The first three to commit, the source…..
