From: SportingNews.com — Michigan athletic director Dave Brandon said fans clamoring for Michigan and Ohio State to be placed in the same division in 2011—and keep the traditional season-ending spot on the schedule—might not be focusing on the big picture.
“I do believe that one of the things people have lost track of in all of the noise is that if Michigan and Ohio State are in the same division, Michigan and Ohio State will never again play for the Big Ten championship—we will never again play for the Rose Bowl,” Brandon said, according to a report by The Detroit News. “I think there’s a lot of people that just haven’t focused on that, and they need to understand that.
“And I have to tell you as a guy who was part of the program and who understands the magnitude of that game, to know that from this point forward we will never play Ohio State for a trip to the Rose Bowl again, never play them for the Big Ten championship again, that doesn’t sound good to me. Now there’s people out there that sounds good to, but I’m not one of them.”
Brandon was speaking Wednesday to the Detroit Economic Club at the Junge Center near Michigan Stadium.
The Big Ten will add Nebraska in 2011, split into two divisions and play a league championship game. Big Ten commissioner Jim Delany said Wednesday in a Chicago Tribune report the process of placing the teams into divisions is “80 percent complete.”
Brandon said in the Detroit News report than an October meeting with Ohio State would be considered a “late-season” game…..
