By Chris Fallica (ESPN.com) — The top-ranked Ohio State Buckeyes enter tonight’s game in Madison (7 ET on ESPN) riding a two-game losing streak as the AP No. 1, having lost to LSU in the 2007 BCS Championship game and to Illinois earlier in the 2007 season. Has anyone lost three straight games when playing as the number one team in the country, you ask?
The answer is yes. But it has happened only twice before. And as you might imagine, the two teams to accomplish the dubious feat are part of college football royalty: the Michigan Wolverines and Nebraska Cornhuskers.
The Wolverines were shut out by an unranked Minnesota squad 16-0 in 1977, but didn’t play another game as No. 1 until 1981 when they were beaten by an unranked Wisconsin team 21-14. Finally, they lost to unranked Michigan State 28-27 in 1990 when a pass interference flag was not thrown in the end zone on a two-point conversion……
